Well Ceduna was okay but weather fair and more of an overnight stop. Traveled to 20Km’s SA side of the border and camped on the cliff top overlooking the Great Bight, what an amazing sight. We managed to find a way down to the beach and touch the water, what an experience! Next day we crossed the border (fruit inspection stricter than SA now!). We then headed to Norseman where we stayed the night (temperature along the way 46C). The motor home performed like a champion and aircon was great but felt the heat when we stopped and got out. Crossing the Nullarbor was an amazing experience especially the 90-mile straight (it does go up and down in altitude). It is just a case of getting to 90Km and then engaging cruise control. We did the “gold triangle” on the Sunday that is; Coolgardie, Kargoorlie, Boulder, Kambalda and back to Norseman. While in Coolgardie we visited Bonnie Vale and the Varachetti mine (an area made famous in song by our good friend John Callaghan). While in Kargoorlie we visited John’s brother Kevin and sister in law Linda who made us most welcome. We went to the gold mine look out and saw the “Super Pit”, 500 metres deep and is a must see. The trucks carry between 260 and 320 Tonnes of gold ore. A tyre on the truck costs $26,000 to replace and 260 Tonnes of ore produces 2 ounces of gold (hope you ladies feel guilty?). We then stayed another night at Norseman having used 75 Litres of Diesel doing the Gold Triangle. Monday the 14th February we drove down to Esperance on the coast of WA. A fairly uneventful trip till 80 Km short of Esperance when the cruise control decided to go on strike and so we will not get a Mercedes dealer till Albany 550 Km away, still its more of an irritation than a problem. We like Esperance so far and have met Sammy the Sea Lion who hangs around the jetty waiting for the fishermen to throw him the heads etc. Sometimes he has strong competition from the sea gulls. We are still at Esperance and checking out the great beaches and sights so stay tuned for the next update.
